ORLANDO, Fla. -- MSU Moorhead tennis suffered a setback in the first match of their annual Spring Break trip. The Dragons fell to NCAA Division I school South Dakota, 7-0.
"It's always a challenge going from playing indoors to outdoors, but we adjusted very nicely. I'm looking forward to the rest of our matches down here," said MSUM tennis coach
Alexis Konecne.
South Dakota would command doubles play, winning all three matches to earn the team point. The pairing of
Luzmary Diaz Castillo and
Shaelyn Johnson were handed their first loss as a duo in a 6-1 affair.
Madison Bell and
Tiannah Gu dropped to 4-6 overall this season at number two doubles in a 6-0 loss.
Katryna Hansen returned from injury for the Dragons to compete in number three doubles alongside
Claire Nemmers. The pairing would fall 6-1 to South Dakota's Paige Alter and Hitakamya Narwal.
The Yotes would also win all six singles competitions as Castillo would fall in number one singles to Bea Havlickova. The transfer would compete in the first set, falling by a score of 6-2 before dropping the second set 6-0. Johnson would see her singles record drop to 4-6 in a number two spot loss to Amanda de Oliveira (6-1, 6-0).
Tiannah Gu would have a strong showing in number three singles, pushing Anna Medvyedeva to a 6-2 result in set one. Gu would eventually fall in straight sets with a 6-1 set two loss.
