NSIC IDTF Day Two: Kemp Turns In Legacy Performance, Oduong, Bruer Champs

MANKATO, Minn. – In the final conference meet of his career, Shyrone Kemp won NSIC titles in high jump and triple jump to lead MSU Moorhead track & field at the NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Ibrahim Oduong (400m) and Braxton Bruer (800m) also won conference titles on Saturday for the Dragons.
 
The Dragon men placed fourth with 82 points while the MSUM women placed 10th with 16 points. 
 
Multis
 
Mickalyn Babcock would begin the day registering a personal best in the 60m hurdles as part of the women's pentathlon. Babcock clocked a 9.06 to finish second overall in the event. The senior would finish in a tie for ninth in the high jump to collect 644 points. Babcock would gain another 506 points following the shot put. Through four events, Babcock sat in ninth place with 2569 points. She would conclude the multi with a personal best 2:45.03 in the 800m run. Babcock placed 11th with a personal best score of 3086, which is now the eighth-best mark in MSUM history. 
 
Hunter Miller would continue competition in the men's heptathlon as he would set a new personal best in the pole vault. Miller had a top clearance of 9-09 (2.97m). The freshman would conclude the multi with a personal best 3:02.54 in the 1000m run, finishing fifth overall. Miller finished 10th with an overall score of 4126.
 
Sprints
 
Ibrahim Oduong would run a dazzling 400m to claim a conference title in the event. Oduong finished with a mark of 48.19, which won him the race by nearly .30 seconds. For the senior, it is his first ever conference championships and earned him another All-NSIC nod. Oduong still holds the eighth fastest 400m in Division II this season (47.44). 
 
Shavantae Roberts would place sixth overall in the 60 dash with a finals time of 7.63, which is her second-fastest time this season only to yesterday's 7.58. Roberts would place sixth in the 200m later in the day with a time of 25.57.
 
Jumps
 
Shyrone Kemp would turn in a stirring performance in men's high jump, claiming a conference title with a 6-10.75 (2.10m) clearance. The mark is a new personal best for the superb senior (indoor and outdoor) and matches the fifth-best indoor high jump in MSUM history. Kemp's clearance is also an NCAA provisional mark and is tied for 20th-best in Division II. Tyler Missick would place fourth in the same event for the Dragons with a top clearance of 6-07 (2.01m). 
 
Kemp would only continue his stellar day with another conference championship in the triple jump. The senior would pop a season best 51-10.5 (15.81m) in his third attempt to claim victory. It improves on Kemp's 2023-24 best which is currently the second best in all of Division II. For Kemp, it is his fifth straight season winning the conference's indoor triple jump. Kemp was the meet's High Point Scorer, garnering 26 points throughout the weekend. 
 
Latrell Taylor (13.80m) and Kade Larson (12.70m) would register personal bests in the same event with Taylor finishing 10th overall.
 
Distance
 
Braxton Bruer would claim another indoor 800m title with a finals time of 1:55.44. Though a modest time for the senior, it still won him the race by nearly a full second. It is Bruer's third consecutive indoor 800m conference championship. He stills holds the fourth fastest 800m (1:49.29) in Division II entering the national meet. 
 
Bruer would also lead the Dragons in the men's mile run, placing sixth with a personal best time of 4:16.62. Adnew Stueven (4:21.75) and Colin O'Farrell (4:32.48) would place 10th and 17th in the same race respectively. 
 
O'Farrell would earn the first individual All-NSIC nod of his career in the men's 1000m run. The sophomore clocked a personal best time of 2:30.60 to finish third overall. O'Farrell was a member of the Dragon distance medley relay team that earned a runner-up finish on Friday. 
 
Stueven would earn All-NSIC honors in the men's 3000m run with a personal best time of 8:30.80, which is now the fifth-fastest in school history. James Dorado would place 10th in the same race, also running a personal best with a mark of 8:45.60. 

Relays
 
To close the meet, MSUM's 4x400m team of Oduong. O'Farrell, Bruer and Jerome Crayton would finish third overall with a time of 3:20.60. 
 
MSUM will now prepare for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships which begin on Friday, March 8 in Pittsburg, Kansas.
