Bruer Regains 800m Record, Plethora of Dragon PRs Set at Bison Open

FARGO, N.D. – MSU Moorhead senior Braxton Bruer regained his indoor 800m school record while a heavy host of Dragons registered personal bests at the annual Bison Open on Friday and Saturday. 
 
The Dragon men finished third as a team while MSUM's women finished seventh. 
 
Multi Events
 
Mickalyn Babcock would compete in the pentathlon for the Dragons on Friday and would turn in a strong meet. Babcock finished seventh overall with a personal-best score of 3045, which is the ninth-best pentathlon mark in school history. The senior would earn indoor personal bests in the 60m hurdles (9.14) and long jump (16-05.25/5.01m).
 
Hunter Miller also turned in a strong first day in the men's heptathlon, ending Friday in fifth place overall. The true freshman collected personal bests in the 60m (7.35), long jump (20-07.5/6.14m) and shot put (33-08.5/10.27m). After Friday, Miller held a total score of 2595 with three events remaining on Saturday. 
 
Saturday would see Miller register personal bests in the 60m hurdles (9.03), pole vault (9-06/2.90m) and 1000m (3:04.28). In his first time ever doing a multi event, Miller finished fourth with 4292 points, which is the ninth-highest point total in MSUM history.
 
Sprints/Relays
 
On Friday, Ibrahim Oduong would earn a season-best mark of 22.41 in the 200m, which tops his previous best (22.47) set at the Bison Team Cup. Oduong would finish fourth overall while Jerome Crayton (22.58) would come in sixth in the same race. 
 
In the men's 60m dash, David Daniels turned in one of the best performances of his career. Daniels clocked a 6.83 in the preliminaries, a new Bison Open record at the time. The time is an NCAA provisional time for the sophomore and is the second-fastest 60m in MSUM history. Daniels would finish fourth in the 60m finals while his Bison Open record time was bested.
 
Shavantae Roberts would turn in a similarly great performance with a personal best of 7.68 in the 60m finals. Roberts placed third overall and improves her time as the second-fastest in school history. 
 
Jumps/Vaults
 
Shyrone Kemp would win the triple jump competition on Saturday, winning with a modest mark of 23-09 (7.24m) to win by three inches. David Daniels would finish fifth in the same event with a leap of 22-06.5 (6.87m). In men's high jump, Tyler Missick equaled his NCAA provisional clearance of 6-8.75 (2.05m) to win the event. 
 
In women's high jump, Hunter Petersen would finish eighth with a personal best clearance of 5-03 (1.60m). Fellow sophomore Ayden Ochs would register a personal best in the long jump with a leap of 14-07.25 (4.45m). 
 
Nicholas Huss would register a new personal best in men's pole vault with a top clearing of 14-01.75 (4.31m). Huss finished ninth overall in the event. 
 
Throws
 
On Friday, Darius Sechen would hurl a personal-best in men's weight throw with a top toss of 49-02.5 (15.00m) which smashes his previous best of 46-09.5 (14.26m) set at the Cobber Indoor Open. 
 
Distance
 
Braxton Bruer would headline the Dragon distance crew as he would clock a school record mark of 1:50.85 in Saturday's 800m. Bruer won the race by over two full seconds with the time also an NCAA provisional mark. Not only that, Bruer's time is a new Bison Open and Shelly Ellig Indoor Track & Field Facility record. 
 
On Friday, both Adnew Stueven (8:37.16) and James Dorado (8:49.56) would collect personal bests in the 3000m run. Stueven finished eighth overall with Dorado placing 13th. Joel Brault would register a personal-best in the same event with a mark of 9:08.27. On the women's side in the same race. Grace Dorsher (10:52.86) and Abbie Christen (11:15.88) would also set new indoor personal bests. 
 
On Saturday, Colin O'Farrell would record a personal best in the mile with a time of 4:21.55 with the sophomore finishing seventh. O'Farrell would place sixth in Saturday's 800m with a time of 1:57.92 in his first time running the event indoors.

MSUM will compete at the SDSU Indoor Classic which begins on Friday, February 9.
