FARGO, N.D. – MSU Moorhead tennis picked up its first win of 2024 as the Dragons won all nine matches across singles and doubles play in a 7-0 win over Concordia College on Sunday afternoon.
MSUM would control much of doubles play as the number one team of newcomer
Luzmary Diaz Castillo and
Shaelyn Johnson would earn their first victory as a team in a 6-4 win.
Madison Bell and
Tiannah Gu would fire up their usual chemistry in a 6-2 win over Concordia's Anna Hacker and Erin Borchard for their third win of 2023-24. In number three doubles, sophomore
Claire Nemmers and freshman
Katryna Hansen would team up for the first time and win 6-4 over Annalise Skrade and Lizzie Allan. With the three victories, the Dragons commanded the doubles team point.
Diaz Castillo would only continue her strong Dragon debut in singles action as the sophomore would pick up a straight sets (6-0, 6-0) win in number one singles over Raquel Egge. Johnson and Gu would do the same for MSUM in number two and three singles with Johnson claiming a 6-2, 6-0 win with Gu winning 6-0, 6-1 over Hacker.
Claire Nemmers would also control her number six singles match against Annalise Skrade, winning 6-2, 6-0 in straight sets.
Hansen and Bell would be forced to battle for victories in their respective singles bouts. Hansen would win 6-4 before heading into a tiebreaker with Erin Borchard as the freshman won 7-1 for a 7-6 win. Bell would fight in a first set tiebreaker with Lizzie Allan, earning a 7-6 win after a 10-8 tiebreaker set. Bell would win the match with a 6-1 win in the second set.
