MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead softball is set for its first big tournament of the season as the Dragons will travel to Tucscon, Ariz., to compete in the D2 Cactus Classic beginning Thursday. MSUM will play seven games across four days.

The Dragons began their season last weekend at the Minot State Bubble Invite where they won all four games at the tournament. MSUM outscored their opponents 24-5 over the four games in Minot. This included a non-conference win over fellow NSIC foe Minot State to close the tournament on Sunday afternoon.
Azalya Lopez was strong for the Dragons both at the plate and in the circle last weekend. Lopez hit for a .545 average with six hits and five runs batted in including the game-winning RBI against University of Providence on Sunday. The sophomore pitched nine scoreless innings for MSUM over the weekend with nine strikeouts. Freshman pitcher
Teagan Clemmons led MSUM in their first game of the tournament, racking up 10 strikeouts against Dakota Wesleyan.
Evey Evans claimed the only home run for MSUM on the weekend with a solo shot against Valley City State.
The D2 Cactus Classic will begin for MSUM on Thursday with a matchup against San Francisco State at 11 a.m. before the Dragons take on Nebraska-Kearney at 1 p.m. Friday will see MSUM matchup again with San Francisco State at 11 a.m. before battling Hawaii-Hilo at 1 p.m. On Saturday, the Dragons will take on Davis & Elkins College at noon before playing Western New Mexico at 3:30 p.m. MSUM will close the tournament with an 11 a.m. game against Adams State on Sunday.Â
