#DragonsMarchOn: Kemp Fourth in Long Jump, Bruer, Oduong Run Strong

PITTSBURG, Kan. -- MSU Moorhead was led by its four stellar student-athletes on day one of the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Shyrone Kemp finished fourth in men's long jump to earn First Team All-America honors. 

Ashley Hokanson led off the day for the Dragons in women's pole vault, clearing a top height of 12-04 (3.77m) to finish in a tie for 12th place overall. Hokanson missed on all three attempts at 12-10 (3.92m). 

Ibrahim Oduong would turn in a strong race in men's 400m preliminary action, clocking a 47.45, which is just .01 off his own personal best and school record. Oduong got boxed in late in the race, but was able to work his way up in the field by the end of the race. The senior finished fifth overall in three heats of the 400m and qualified for the finals on Saturday. For Oduong, it earns him his first All-America honor.

Braxton Bruer would follow suit in the men's 800m preliminary races as the senior would win his heat with a time of 1:51.40. Bruer also finished fifth overall among all competitors with the time and earned a spot in tomorrow's final. The senior truly blazed the final portion of the race, clocking a 39.86 in the final 300m to claim a heat victory. 

To round out the day, Shyrone Kemp would compete in the final long jump event of his collegiate career and would earn a fourth place finish. Kemp collected First Team All-America honors in the process as the senior had a top leap of 24-7.25 (7.50m). Kemp was strong in his early jumps with his first attempt registering a 24-3 (7.39m) as the Jones Town, Bahamas, native would turn in his best jump in his second attempt. In his sixth and final attempt, Kemp measured a solid 24-7 (7.49m). 

Action from Pittsburg, Kansas, picks up tomorrow with Kemp competing in triple jump beginning at 5:35 p.m. Oduong and Bruer will compete in their final races at 6 p.m. and 6:25 p.m. respectively.
