LONG BEACH, Calif. – The MSU Moorhead sprints crew turned in solid marks at the Pacific Coast Invitational on Thursday. Across town,
Adnew Stueven demolished his own 3000m steeplechase record to open Dragon track & field's competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
Ibrahim Oduong would open up competition for the Dragons at the Pacific Coast Invitational, clocking a 47.72 in the 400m. Oduong would finish fourth in his heat and seventh overall in a field of 66 competitors. The race was Oduong's first time running the 400m this outdoor season and is also an NCAA provisional mark. It is currently the fastest 400m time in the NSIC this season and sixth among Central Region sprinters.
Shavantae Roberts would continue her string of strong races, marking an 11.79 in the women's 100m dash to finish eighth overall. Roberts won her heat handily, as the second-place finisher clocked a 12.13. The time equals the old school record set by Ann Kiecker in 1988. The sophomore reset that record last weekend at the USD Early Bird (11.75).
In men's 100m action,
Jerome Crayton would turn a fine performance with a time of 10.86. The time is an all-time personal best for the senior, who previously had a top mark of 10.97. Crayton would also win his heat in the 200m dash with a 22.11 finish time.
Elliott MacLennan would run an 11.02 in the same race to win his heat. MacLennan would run a 22.59 later in the evening in the 200m.
37 miles to the northeast at the Bryan Clay Invitational,
Adnew Stueven would conclude the day for MSUM in the open section of the 3000m steeplechase. The senior would absolutely annihilate his own school record, finishing with a time of 8:55.93. Stueven's previous record stood at 9:00.64 set two seasons ago. The mark is an NCAA provisional time and is seventh-fastest 3000m steeple in Division II this year.
