MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead tennis will conclude the regular season on Sunday, April 21 against St. Cloud State from Courts Plus Community Fitness in Fargo, N.D. The match, which had been rescheduled from March 23, is set to begin at 11 a.m.
The match with the Huskies will determine seeding for the lower half of the NSIC Tournament bracket. Currently, MSUM sits in the number seven seed in the tournament, but could drop to the eight seed with a loss to St. Cloud State. If the Dragons are able to defeat the Huskies, they have the opportunity to move into the sixth seed thanks to their head-to-head victory against Winona State earlier in the season.Â
MSUM is coming a win against Bemidji State on Friday (6-1) before falling to Minnesota Crookston on Saturday morning (5-2). Against the Beavers, MSUMÂ would earn the doubles point with a pair of wins among the three matches. In singles play, MSUM saw
Luzmary Diaz Castillo,
Shaelyn Johnson,
Tiannah Gu,
Madison Bell and
Claire Nemmers gather wins to secure the team victory. Against the Golden Eagles on Saturday, the pairing of Castillo and Johnson would earn their ninth win of the season. In singles competition, Gu and
Katryna Hansen would earn victories in straight sets for the Dragons.Â
The aforementioned pair of Castillo and Johnson lead the Dragons in doubles play, racing out to a 9-5 ledger this season. This includes an impressive 6-2 mark in NSIC doubles matches. On the singles side, Gu leads the Dragons with nine wins this season and a team-best 5-3 record in NSIC play. Johnson is just behind Gu with eight singles wins while Bell and Nemmers each have seven wins on their record this season.Â
