MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead tennis will compete in their first NSIC Tournament since the 2020-21 season as the Dragons have earned the sixth seed in the annual tournament. MSUM is slated to take on third-seeded Minnesota State at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at Huether Family Match Pointe in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The Dragons earned the sixth seed thanks to a gritty 4-3 win over St. Cloud State last Sunday. With the victory, MSUM finished the regular season a perfect 3-0 record inside the friendly confines of Courts Plus Community Fitness in Fargo, N.D.
In doubles play, the team of
Luzmary Diaz Castillo and
Shaelyn Johnson have found their groove as a pairing with a 10-5 overall record. Of that ledger, the duo has a 7-2 mark in NSIC doubles play. The team enters the NSIC Tournament on a three-match winning streak with the pairing's last loss coming on April 6 against Augustana.
Claire Nemmers and
Katryna Hansen have won two of their last three doubles matches and have a 3-4 record in NSIC matches overall.
In singles play,
Tiannah Gu has been playing her best tennis of the season, leading MSUM in overall wins with 10. Gu holds a 6-3 mark in NSIC singles play this year and will enter Friday's dual having won her last three matches and seven of her last eight. Johnson collected her ninth singles win of the year against St. Cloud State on Sunday, having won two of her last three singles matchups.
Madison Bell is just behind Johnson and Gu, having claimed eight victories this season including three in NSIC play. Bell is 6-4 overall in the number five position this year.
