Dragon Tennis Takes on Sioux Falls Gauntlet This Weekend

| By:
MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead tennis returns to NSIC play this weekend with a pair of matches in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Dragons will take on Sioux Falls on Friday, April 5 beginning at 7 p.m. before playing Augustana on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Live video will be available at msumdragons.com.

MSUM's last competition came on March 24 when the Dragons defeated Minnesota Duluth, 6-1 at Courts Plus Community Fitness. The Dragons were scheduled to play St. Cloud State the day prior, but that match has since been rescheduled for April 21 beginning at 11 a.m. at Courts Plus.

In the match against the Bulldogs, MSUM would own doubles play to begin the morning as the number one pairing of Luzmary Diaz Castillo and Shaelyn Johnson would win 6-2 to collect their seventh win of the year. Madison Bell and Tiannah Gu would do the same at number two doubles with a dominating win over Brynne Folden and Lilly Nelson, 6-1. For Bell and Gu, it is their fifth doubles win as a pair this season. To round out doubles play, Katryna Hansen and Claire Nemmers would secure the sweep for the Dragons in a 6-4 victory. The duo moved to 3-3 as a pair this season.

On Senior Day, Johnson would earn her seventh win of the year in a straight sets win over Abby Johnson (6-4, 6-3). Gu would pick up her sixth singles win on the year in a 6-2, 6-1 straight sets win over Carly Chaney. Hansen would find herself in a hard fought match with Honsey at the number four spot as the freshman needed an 8-6 tiebreak win to claim a win in set one. Hansen would use that momentum to dominate in the ensuing set, earning a 6-1 victory.

Madison Bell would grab her sixth singles win of the season at the number five spot in a straight sets win over Lilly Nelson. To round out the morning, Nemmers would turn in a gritty performance against Brynne Folden. Nemmers claimed the first set 6-1 and would end up in a feverish rally with Folden in set two. Eventually, Folden would win 7-6 thanks to a 7-5 tiebreaker win. However, the sophomore Nemmers would rally back to defeat Folden in the deciding set, 10-8.
