Dragons Ready for Marauders, Mustangs and Beavers

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead softball will look to six games in a six-day span as the Dragons hit the road to play the University of Mary on Thursday beginning at 1 p.m. MSUM will travel home for matchups against Southwest Minnesota State and Minot State on Sunday and Tuesday, respectively. 

MSUM will take on the Mustangs beginning at noon on Sunday before taking on the Beavers at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. 

Live video and stats will be available at msumdragons.com. Please note that the doubleheader against the University of Mary has been moved from Wednesday to Thursday. Sunday's contests against the Mustangs will also be the program's senior day where they will honor Evey Evans, Lizzy Davis, Kaelyn Leverson, Ella Holiman, Emma Abbott, Reece Dahl, Eliyah McCarthy and Hannah Losee

MSUM is coming off a 3-3 stretch last week, earning a win in each of their three series against Northern State, Wayne State and Sioux Falls. 

In The Circle

Azalya Lopez continues to lead the MSUM pitching staff, having twirled a team-high 88 inning so far this season with a stingy 2.55 ERA. Lopez offers up an 11-5 record in the circle this season while also leading the team in strikeouts, having fanned 89 batters this season. Teagan Clemmons has pitched 58.2 innings for the Dragons so far this season with a 3.94 ERA and 43 strikeouts. Clemmons holds a 5-5 record and also leads the roster with three saves in 2024. Evey Evans has also seen an expansive role in the circle in 2024, slinging 32.1 innings so far this year with a solid 2.16 ERA. Evans also has a pair of saves on her ledger this season. Collectively, MSUM's pitchers have held batters to a .292 average this season. 

At The Plate

Lopez is also solid at the plate for MSUM, hitting for a .321 average so far this season with 19 RBIs. The sophomore has a .425 slugging percentage and a .397 on-base percentage. Chloe Makinney leads the Dragons at the plate with a team-best .365 average and a .500 slugging percentage as the freshman bolsters a .927 OPS in 2024. Makinney has 15 RBIs on the year and has scored 11 runs as well this season while stealing seven bases on seven attempts. Mack Gallagher comes off a stellar week of games which saw her crush three home runs, moving her RBI total to 21, a team-high. Gallagher also has team-high 10 doubles in 2024 with an .839 OPS.

In The Field

MSUM continues to be strong in the field, having only committed 29 errors, a mark that is second-lowest in the NSIC to only Minot State. On the flipside, opponents have committed 38 errors against the Dragons. In total, MSUM has a team fielding percentage of .972, which is the second-best mark in the conference this season. Eight Dragons enter the week with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage this season (Makinney, Eliya Johnson, Teagan Pranchke, Avery Steffen, Ella Holiman, Hannah Losee, Brynna Farman and Grace Oeltjen
