MANKATO, Minn. – MSU Moorhead senior
Mickalyn Babcock would kick off Dragon efforts at the NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday. Babcock began competition in the heptathlon.
The senior would wrap the first day of competition in ninth place with an overall score of 2830 after four events.
Babcock would begin her heptathlon with a stellar showing in the 100m hurdles. The senior would register a personal best mark of 14.87 to finish sixth in the event. The time is the ninth-fastest 100m hurdle time in MSUM history and Babcock's first time running a sub-15 second mark. The performance earned Babcock an initial 859 points.
In high jump, Babcock would finish in a tie for eighth with a top clearing of 5-01-.25 (1.56m) to collect 689 points. The Denmark, Wis., native would turn in a strong effort in shot put later in the afternoon, hurling a personal best of 35-11.50 (10.96m). Babcock would place sixth in the event to grab an additional 592 points.
To conclude the day, Babcock would clock a 27.27 in the 200m dash for 690 points. She would finish the day with a total of 2830 points with three events left to be contested.
The NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships continue tomorrow with multi events kicking off the action at 9 a.m. Running events begin at 10 a.m. with field competition starting at 12:30 p.m.
