About the Dragons
The Dragons (0-1-1), dropped their first match of the year 0-1 to Parkside, and then earned a hard fought 0-0 draw against Purdue Northwest. The Dragon defensive back line was a brick wall for most of the weekend, anchored by preseason 'defensive player to watch'
Sara Alfrida Munk Nielsen, who played all 180 minutes in both games. The goalkeepers for the Dragons were also stellar. Junior goalkeepers
Quinn Carter and
Rylee Truslow combined to make 19 saves, with a 95 percent save percentage on opponents' shots on goal. Freshman midfielder
Mary Cox played at solid 137 minutes for her team, tallying a shot on goal as well.
Sam Azure,
Marin Hensley,
Lilly Johnson and
Mason Kimble all logged over 100 minutes for the Dragons last week as well. The Dragons will look to get the offense fired up this weekend for their upcoming opponents.
The Dragons are led by first-year head coach
Scott Forster.
Scouting New Mexico Highlands University
The Cowgirls (1-0-1), didn't lose a match in their first week of play. They won a low scoring season-opening match, 1-0, and battled to a 1-1 draw in their second game of the year. They have out shot their opponents 12-9, with eight of those 12 shots being on target. Junior forward Kate Rayner has been the standout for the Cowgirls thus far as she has scored both of her team's goals so far this season. Freshman forward Mia Roybal and senior midfielder Jennifer Mueller each have an assist. The Cowgirls are led by first year head coach Amanda Evans.
Scouting University of Nebraska Kearney
The Lopers (2-0), have had a very successful beginning to their season. Starting off with a 2-1 win against NSIC foe Sioux Falls, then another win against another NSIC team in Minnesota Crookston, 1-0. UNK's shots on goal percentage was worse than their opponents over the first week at a mark of 55 percent, but the shear amount of shots taken makes up for it. They took 34 shots compared to their opponents only taking 11. Junior midfielder Corynne Olsen, senior defender Katie Pagel and sophomore forward Jordan Renard have all scored a goal for UNK. The Lopers are coached by third year man Rob Breton.
