ST. PAUL, Minn. – MSU Moorhead soccer would drop an NSIC match on Sunday to Concordia, St. Paul, 1-0.
MSUM would get its first attack just before the 12-minute mark as
Marin Hensley would start a breakaway following a Golden Bear attack. Hensley threaded a lovely ball to a racing
Jensen Seidel. Unfortunately for Seidel, Concordia, St. Paul's marker would stall the forward progress with a nice tackle.
Quinn Carter would see five shots through 17 minutes of play, making a pair of saves.
Carter would stall a dangerous Golden Bear attempt in the 29
th minute to keep the game scoreless. Concordia, St. Paul got past the Dragon backline and were able to fire a shot, but Carter pressed the ball, kicking it away. The ensuing Golden Bear corner kick was negated by the Dragons for a goal kick.
The Dragon keeper would continue to stall Concordia, St. Paul attempts at the net, stopping four shots through 45 minutes. MSUM would run into trouble late in the half with the Golden Bears having an open net chance. The Dragon backline would do its job, booting away the CSP try on net. At half, the teams remained at a scoreless stalemate.
Carter and the Dragons would limit a pair of shot attempts early in the second half to keep the Golden Bears off the scoreboard. The junior would make one save before MSUM teamed up for a save to keep the home squad off the scoreboard. Carter would make three more saves before the 67
th minute before Concordia, St. Paul finally connected. The Golden Bears would get a favorable bounce following a Carter save, knocking the rebound into the back of the net. With 20 minutes to play, CSP led 1-0.
Concordia, St. Paul would have another shot turned away by Carter just ahead of the 80
th minute. While the Dragons were able to put together an attack shortly before that, the Golden Bear defense would tighten up before MSUM could attempt a shot. The Golden Bears would have back-to-back chances in the 85
th minute with Carter stopping an initial shot and then diving to keep a rebound shot out of the net.
MSUM would have a final rally following Carter's effort. MSUM would get a corner kick late in the half with the attempt falling right to CSP keeper Sydney Potter. Not long after,
Madalynn Hopkins would fire a shot on goal from outside the box that was also saved by Potter. Concordia, St. Paul would hang on despite the late attack from the Dragons. Carter finished the match with 12 saves in the full 90. Hensley,
Mason Kimble and
Sara Alfrida Munk Nielsen would also play the full 90 for MSUM.
