MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead tennis will embark on the 2024-25 season this Sunday as the Dragons will play a pair of outdoor contests against Concordia College and the University of Mary. MSUM will take on the Cobbers at 9:30 a.m. before taking on the Marauders at 12:30 p.m. with both matches taking place at Concordia's outdoor tennis courts.
MSUM is coming off an 8-10 dual season in 2023-24 which culminated in the program making a return to the NSIC Tennis Tournament last spring. Heading into this fall, the Dragons have not lost to Concordia College since April 14, 2012 as MSUM currently bolsters a nine-match winning streak against the Cobbers. On the flipside, MSUM will look to snap a four-match losing streak to conference foe Mary. The Dragons last defeated the Marauders on March 13, 2021.
The Dragons return several key pieces to the fold this season, headlined by All-NSIC Second Team Singles selection
Tiannah Gu. MSUM also brings back an All-NSIC Second Team doubles pairing in
Shaelyn Johnson and
Luzmary Diaz Castillo. The pairing went an impressive 10-6 last season, including a 7-2 mark in conference matches. Other returners in 2024-25 include juniors
Claire Nemmers and
Lakia Manska as well as sophomores
Katryna Hansen and
Izabela Flores. MSUM welcomes in one true freshman this season in Mandan, N.D., native
Sophia Felderman.
