Dragon Matmen Sharp Again, Cruise by Coo

| By:
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – MSU Moorhead wrestling scored early and scored often in an impressive showing on Friday night. The Dragons cruised past (RV) Sioux Falls, 32-9.

125 pounds would begin the dual as Clayson Mele took to the mat for MSUM. Mele would score a takedown in the second period and follow it up with another in the final frame. The redshirt junior would eventually get Jaxton Packer on the mat shortly thereafter for a pin at 5:34. Ryan Henningson would dominate his 133-pound match with Daniel Parra. Henningson scored an impressive 17 points in a little over two minutes of work. The senior moved to 5-0 with a technical fall at 2:04.

Pedro Velazquez would secure perhaps the most impressive win on Friday evening. Velazquez secured a first-period takedown on Jordon Oehme and would ride the score throughout the match. A 4-1 decision for Velazquez moved the Dragons in front, 14-0. Oehme was ranked 20th in the country according to The Open Mat this week.

Jacob Thomas would look sharp after moving down in weight to 157 pounds. Thomas scored a first-period takedown on Lincoln Fink with another in the final frame. The Fargo, N.D., native would also grab a ride time bonus point in an 8-4 decision. Mason Gode would score three takedowns in the first period of his 174-pound bout. Gode would spend a majority of the match in the top position, racking up over two minutes of riding time. A 15-7 major decision made the team score 21-6 in favor of MSUM.

Wyatt Powell would secure a swift takedown at 184 pounds before giving one up himself. Late in the first period, Powell had a nice reversal to lead 5-4 after three minutes. Powell would only need 15 seconds in the second period to pin Daevon Vereen. Will Price would have some nice offense early at 197 pounds. Price scored a takedown late in the first period before scoring three four-point near falls in the second frame. The technical fall firmly secured the dual for the Dragons, who now led 32-6.
