ST. PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota State Moorhead soccer fell victim to three first-half goals from host Concordia-St. Paul on Friday evening. The Dragons dropped the NSIC match to the Golden Bears, 3-0.
"CSP are a top team, but starting like we did didn't help," said head coach
Scott Forster. "Halftime was full of communication and energy. To step up for the last 45 was a great Dragon lesson for us all."
The Golden Bears would be quick to start the offense as they would have three shots logged within the first two minutes of action. Concordia-St. Paul would take advantage of a free kick not long after to score the match's first goal. Moorhead would have an opportunity to equalize not long after as
Brooklyn Broderick fired off a shot on net. However, the chance was stopped by CSP keeper Sydney Potter.
Dragon keeper
Rylee Truslow would stall a Golden Bear chance just before the 12
th minute, but the home club would put another shot away in the 13
th minute to lead 2-0. Concordia-St. Paul was not done there as they would strike again midway through the first half to stretch their lead to three goals. By the end of the half, Truslow had made six saves, but the Dragons still trailed 3-0. The Golden Bears had 18 total shots through the first 45 minutes.
While Concordia-St. Paul would get shots off in the second half, only six found the target with Truslow stopping them all. The senior goalkeeper staved off an array of shots late in the match and would hold the home team scoreless. However, Moorhead would not be able to find the offense needed to cut into the three-goal deficit. Concordia-St. Paul would go on to win the match, 3-0. The 12 saves from Truslow matches her career high.
