MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead tennis will wrap non-championship action this weekend as part of the Gustavus Adolphus Fall Invitational. The tournament will take place on Saturday and Sunday in St. Peter, Minn.
The Dragons are coming off a pair of dual matches against Concordia College and the University of Mary last week. Moorhead defeated the Cobbers 6-1 before falling to the Marauders 4-3.
Against the Cobbers, MSUM would sweep through doubles action as
Luzmary Diaz Castillo and
Camilla Bonini would earn a 6-2 win in the number one spot. The duo of
Katryna Hansen and
Sophia Felderman as well as the team of
Emma Farder and
Autumn Kron claimed doubles wins as well. In singles play, Diaz Castillo would collect a straight sets win in convincing fashion (6-0, 6-0). Hansen and Bonini were also able to win in straight sets in the number two and five positions respectively. Felderman and Farder would claim the remaining singles victories for MSUM with both competitors needing three sets. Felderman won the first set against Shireen Durrani before falling via tiebreaker in the second frame. The sophomore would rally back to claim the deciding third set 10-6. Farder would battle back after dropping the first set via tiebreak, winning the next two sets (6-3, 10-4).
The Maruaders would win two of three doubles matches to claim the pairs point in the second match of the day. Diaz Castillo and Bonini grabbed another win for Moorhead, defeating Elizabete Leske and Josefa Panganiban, 7-5. Diaz Castillo and Bonini would also earn singles wins for the Dragons with both victories coming in straight sets. The senior would top Leske 7-5, 6-2 while the newcomer Bonini defeated Valeria Bradley, 6-1, 6-2. The junior Hansen would pick up the last singles win for the Dragons, defeating Panganiban in straight sets (6-1, 7-5).
