Second Half Effort Comes Up Short for MSUM Versus Huskies

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Minnesota State Moorhead soccer put up a strong second-half effort, but ultimately fell short in NSIC action Friday. The Dragons were defeated by St. Cloud State, 4-1.

"Today was effort and resilience. We've solved a lot of defensive challenges. The goal we scored today was only the second goal they've conceded in open play and at 2-1 we were right in the fight," said head coach Scott Forster. "Proud of the team in their work."

Madalynn Hopkins would open the offense with a shot that missed the mark within the first 95 seconds. St. Cloud State would swiftly respond, scoring a goal at 8:45 to take a 1-0 lead early in the match. The Huskies would have chances at the net but had trouble finding the mark with several missing high.

Dragon keeper Rylee Truslow would make two saves following the first goal before St. Cloud State scored again at 21:32. By halftime, the Huskies remained in front by two scores following 15 total shots. Of the 15 shots, only five were registered on net with Truslow making three saves.

Truslow would continue to be tested to open the second half, stalling five shots within the first 18 minutes of play. Just after the 65-minute mark, Brooklyn Broderick attempted a deep shot. The ball had legs, carrying over the head of Husky keeper Jaylee Strickland for MSUM's first goal. For Broderick, it is her third goal of of the 2025 season. St. Cloud State would be quick to answer, scoring 19 seconds after Broderick's goal.

Jensen Seidel would try a shot not long after that required a save from Strickland. The Huskies would convert on a penalty kick at 85:28 following a Dragon handball. The visitors would carry the 4-1 lead until time expired. Truslow had 10 saves in the loss for Moorhead.
