MOORHEAD, Minn. – Minnesota State Moorhead soccer fell victim to a strong second half effort from visiting Northern State on Friday. The Dragons fell to the Wolves, 4-1.
Northern State would get the offense started with a shot on goal late in the third minute which was saved by goalkeeper
Quinn Carter. The Wolves would have another chance on the net in the 10
th minute that was also stopped by Carter. Moorhead would get its first shot on the net in the 14
th minute off the foot of
Brooklyn Broderick.
While the Wolves would get another shot on net in the 20
th minute, it was the Dragons who would break the scoreless tie.
Abby Toso would deliver a lovely cross into the box that connected with the head of a streaking
Lilly Johnson. The impressive header landed on the left side of the net for the senior's first goal of the season. Northern State would swiftly respond with a header goal of their own not even a minute later. The teams would carry the 1-1 tie into the halftime break.
It was the Wolves who would control much of the second half as the visitors would get a goal in the 67
th minute. While MSUM would register shots, none would find the target as the Wolves defense tightened up. Northern State would put the finishing touches on the match with a pair of goals late in the match. The Wolves converted on chances in the 87
th and 88
th minutes to secure the 4-1 win.
