MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead swimming & diving earned its sixth straight dual victory on Saturday afternoon against visiting Concordia-St. Paul. The Dragons bested the Golden Bears, 163-137.
Zoe Bjerke would open up the event wins for Moorhead, winning 1-meter diving with a six-dive effort of 240.55.
Ruth Guy (222.30),
Isabelle Johnson (220.90) and
Kennedy Olson (216.65) would finish second, third and fourth respectively. In 3-meter action, Bjerke would win again, securing an overall score of 255.90, which improves on the third-best score in program history. Johnson (214.70) would place second in the same event for Moorhead while Olson (203.05) secured team points for the Dragons, placing fourth.
The Dragons would open up relay action with a victory as the 200-yard medley team of
Kelsey Jackson,
Rose Urick,
Ruth Pavelski and
Sophia Verke would mark a 1:50.35. Moorhead's squad of
Lacie Stark,
Cami Mayo,
Fernanda Leon and
Tresa Baumgard would place third with a time of 1:55.25. To wrap the meet, MSUM had a pair of teams pick up valuable points in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of
Maggie Moore, Pavelski,
Joanna Phillips and Verke would win the event with a time of 3:44.49. MSUM's team of Baumgard, Stark,
Adrianna Sullivan and
Anika Grunenwald placed third behind a collective time of 3:52.69.
In the 1000-yard freestyle,
Turin Johnson would lead Moorhead, placing third behind a time of 11:56.21.
Claire Schlaefer would also earn team points for the Dragons in the same event, marking a 12:08.65. Grunenwald would grab an event win for the Dragons in the 500-yard freestyle behind a time of 5:38.09. Johnson (5:47.94) and Schlaefer (5:53.81) would also add team points for MSUM.
Moore would add another 200-yard freestyle win to her ledger on Saturday, swimming a 2:00.06 for the finish. Grunenwald placed third in the same event with a time of 2:05.62. Jackson earned runner-up marks in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall at 59.89 with Stark (1:05.06) placing fifth.
Rose Urick (1:09.31) and
Sarah Coe (1:19.82) would grab team points for the Dragons in the 100-yard breaststroke, placing second and fifth respectively.
Leon would earn another victory in the 200-yard butterfly on Saturday, winning with a time of 2:09.62 as Mayo clocked a 2:25.21 to place fifth for Moorhead. In the 100-yard freestyle, the Dragons had three top five finishers in Moore (55.29), Verke (55.99) and Phillips (58.15), who placed second, third and fifth respectively. Jackson would follow that up with an event win in the 200-yard backstroke, marking a time of 2:10.07. Urick would finish runner-up in the 200-yard breaststroke, touching the wall at 2:31.02.
It was the sophomore Leon who would seal the team victory for Moorhead, winning both the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard IM. Leon clocked a 59.80 in the fly and a 1:02.01 in the IM. Pavelski would place runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.24. Jackson earned fourth-place mark in the 100-yard IM behind a mark of 1:05.98.
