MSUM Wrestling Back on the Mat at Augsburg Invite

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead wrestling is set for their third tournament of the 2025-26 season as the Dragons head to Minneapolis, Minn., for the Augsburg Invite. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Feelin' Mele...Redshirt senior 125-pounder Clayson Mele had a strong start to his season at the DWU Open on November 8. Mele opened his season with three victories en route to a third-place finish in the 125-pound division. The senior began his morning with a major decision over Southwest Minnesota State's Preston Xayachak, 17-6. Mele would grab another major decision in the quarterfinals over Ridgewater College's Carson Newman, 11-1. The Green River, Wyo., native earned a spot in the third-place match by defeating SMSU's Dylan St. Germain, 14-7. Mele would earn third-place marks at the tournament. 

Babitt The Brute...Sophomore heavyweight Liam Babitt showcased his ability at the heavyweight spot at the DWU Open. Babitt picked up five wins and a sixth-place finish. The sophomore worked through the consolation bracket with a pair of falls in the first two rounds. Babitt would then earn a major decision victory over Nebraska-Kearney's Luke Pawloski. He would then win two more matches before reaching a match limit, forcing two no contests. 

Freshman Vibes...Freshman heavyweight Braden Shamp also looked sharp at the DWU Open on November 8. Shamp won in sudden victory over Dakota Wesleyan's Tanner Hennings before defeating UMary's Aidyn Mitchell by a 4-3 decision. The wins were the first of Shamp's collegaite career. 

Track The Gunner...Alongside Shamp, fellow freshman Gunner Hostetter continued his strong start to the season in Mitchell. Hostetter would earn two wins on Saturday at 157 pounds. Hostetter grabbed a 19-4 tech fall win over Minot State's Tristan Pekas before pinning Minot State's Leo Pedregal in 54 seconds. 

More Wins Added...Also at the DWU Open, Beau Daily would rack up a pair of pins in the 149-pound division, sticking Daniel Camacho (Iowa Lakes CC) at 4:03 and Truman Gilbertson (SMSU) at 5:14. The wins are the first of the season for Daily while 197-pound freshman Kish Eberline grabbed a win. Eberline defeated Nebraska-Kearney's Hudson Oliver by a 4-2 decision. The win was the first of Eberline's collegiate career.
