MSUM Outgunned by Warriors

WINONA, Minn. – Minnesota State Moorhead fell in an NSIC road match on Friday evening. The Dragons were bested by Winona State in three sets. 
 
The Dragons would take advantage of three early errors from the Warriors to command an 8-5 lead in the first set. Maci Martini led the Dragons on the attack in the opening section, tallying three kills. Winona State would eventually work the score back to a stalemate at 11 points. The squads would alternate points before the Warriors scored on three straight rallies to lead 17-15. 
 
Winona State would leverage the run with another shortly after, scoring four straight points to land at set point (24-18). While the Dragons would score the next three points, Winona State later won the set, 25-21. To open the second frame, Winona State raced out to a 13-3 lead, eventually stretching their advantage to 12 points (16-4). The Warriors would continue to control the stanza, leading 22-5 at one point. Brielle Riess, Mya Pfeifer and Jocelin Feutz would all have kills as the Dragons attempted to rally back. However, the deficit proved too large as the Warriors won set two, 25-13. 
 
Moorhead would respond after the second set, taking an 11-7 lead in a pivotal third frame. The teams would continue to trade points before the Dragons struck on two straight points to lead 16-13. Feutz and Riess were responsible for the kills that provided MSUM the three-point cushion. Winona State would go on to tie the set again at 17 points with the teams remaining gridlocked at 19 points shortly after. The Warriors would surge from there, scoring the set's final six points to win, 25-19. Riess led the Dragons with 13 kills in the match.
