ROCHESTER, Minn. – Minnesota State Moorhead remained in sixth place overall after day two of the Rochester Invitational.
Fernanda Leon claimed a victory in the 400-yard IM to pace the Dragons.
The Dragons would see another strong relay performance to open the finals session. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of
Sophia Verke,
Joanna Phillips,
Ruth Pavelski and
Maggie Moore would place sixth with a time of 1:38.27.
Fernanda Leon would turn in another big day for the Dragons, winning the 400-yard IM championship final with a mark of 4:32.21. Leon had placed third in preliminary action with a time of 4:37.26.
Cami Mayo would place third in the C-final of the same event with a time of 4:53.79.
Moore would secure runner-up marks in the 200-yard freestyle consolation final, touching the wall at 1:57.55. Moore marked a 1:58.49 in her preliminary swim.
Turin Johnson would qualify for the C-final in the same event, turning a finals mark of 2:01.54.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, sophomore
Rose Urick would place eighth in the consolation final with a time of 1:08.76. Urick would clock a slightly quicker 1:08.50 in the preliminary race.
Kelsey Jackson would place fourth overall in the championship final of the 100-yard backstroke. Jackson marked a 58.83. The junior clocked a personal best 58.22 in the preliminary, which moves her into fourth all-time in school history.
Lacie Stark would win the D-final of the same event, touching the wall at 1:00.93.
In 1-meter diving,
Zoe Bjerke would lead the Dragons on Friday, tallying an 11-dive score of 372.75 for a fifth-place finish.
Ruth Guy would place 16
th overall with a solid score of 322.70.
To close day two, MSUM's 400-yard medley relay team of Jackson, Urick, Leon and Moore would place 10
thwith a time of 4:00.25.
The Rochester Invitational will wrap up tomorrow with sessions beginning at 9 a.m.
