DULUTH, Minn. – MSU Moorhead women's basketball would trail by as many as 12 points on Friday night before storming back to tie Minnesota Duluth in the closing moment. The Bulldogs would use a late basket to defeat the Dragons, 63-61.
Inside The Game
- After battling illness earlier in the week, senior Natalie Jens got off to a nice start for the Dragons, scoring eight of MSUM's 10 points in the first quarter.
- Minnesota Duluth led 12-10 after one frame as the teams combined for 15 turnovers, eight of them from MSUM.
- A bucket from Katelyn Maciej would tie the game at 12 points early in the second period.
- The teams would trade threes midway through the quarter as Adie Wagner knocked home a triple for the Dragons. Minnesota Duluth would respond with a three to lead 20-17.
- MSUM would conclude the half on a 7-0 run to led 25-24 at the intermission.
- Jens led the way with 12 points for the Dragons.
- The Bulldogs would gather and retain a small lead to start the third quarter before breaking the game open. UMD used an 8-0 run take a 12-point lead (44-32).
- MSUM would try to cut into the deficit from there with a three from Jens and six points from Ashton Safranski. The Dragons trailed 49-41 after three quarters.
- While the Bulldogs would have the lead back up to 11 points early in the fourth, Safranski continued to score for the Dragons.
- Safranski would drill a three with two minutes to play to bring the score to within five points (59-54).
- The bucket would spark a 7-0 Safranski run, tying the game at 59 points with under a minute to play.
- Abby Berge would tie the game again with 36 seconds left after a pair of free throw makes.
- The Bulldogs would score with 11 seconds remaining and hang on to win, 63-61.
- Safranski scored 18 points in the second half, finishing the game with 22 points and six steals, matching her collegiate best.
