Matchup History...The Dragons claimed the first matchup of the season series against the Warriors, winning 92-80 back on January 18. The squads have been relatively even in recent memory with MSUM winning 11 of the last 21 games in the series to WSU's 10. Minnesota State defeated the Dragons earlier this season, 90-88. The win was MSU's third straight victory over the Dragons. The Mavericks have won seven of the last 10 games against MSUM. The last time MSUM defeated Minnesota State was on January 21, 2023 by a 86-76 result.Â
Last Time Out...The Dragons extended their winning streak to six games after massive victories over Minnesota Duluth and 24th-ranked Concordia, St. Paul. Against the Bulldogs,
Carson Johnson and
Jacob Jennissen each scored 14 points for MSUM. Jennissen notched a double-double, snaring 12 rebounds in the win. Johnson netted 24 points against Concordia, St. Paul while a returning
Jacob Beeninga dropped in 22 points on nine of 12 shooting.
Welcome Back Cob...Senior guard
Jacob Beeninga made his return to the lineup this past weekend for the Dragons. Beeninga was eased back into action against Minnesota Duluth, playing 13 minutes and scoring two points. However, Beeninga would not be contained for long as he would explode for 22 points in 21 minutes against Concordia, St. Paul. The senior made nine of his 12 shot attempts in the victory, including a pair of three-pointers.Â
Seniors To Be Honored...Prior to Saturday's contest against Minnesota State, MSUM will honor its two senior leaders.
Jacob Beeninga and
JaMir Price have both been key contributors for the Dragons in their careers. In his two seasons on campus, Price has averaged 14.4 points per game and was named the NSIC's Newcomer of the Year a season ago. Beeninga's list of accolades is seemingly endless at this point, having scored 1,653 career points, the eighth-highest total in program history. Â
The Jenny Trend...Center
Jacob Jennissen has been paramount for MSUM in their six-game winning streak. Over the last six games, Jennissen is averaging 14 points, eight rebounds and a blocked shot per game. Additionally, Jennissen is shooting a 69.7 percent (30-43) from the field in the win streak.Â
Mr. Do-It-All...Freshman
Shaun Wysocki has elevated his game since re-entering the starting lineup to jumpstart the six-game winning streak. Last week, Wysocki averaged 13.5 points, four rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Against CSP on Saturday, Wysocki was all over the floor, netting 14 points with five rebounds, three blocks and two steals. The Rochester, Minn., native also made all eight of his foul shots in the win over the Golden Bears.Â
Can't Forget CJ...Freshman guard
Carson Johnson was superb again last week, averaging 19 points per game for the Dragons. Johnson scored 24 points against CSP, connecting on 10 of 17 field goal attempts, including four of six from three-point range.Â
Quick Scout...MSUM will have to keep both teams' star players in check to see success. WSU guard Luke Haertle scored 24 points in the first meeting this season while Maverick Justin Eagins poured in 34 points on January 17.
Tim Bergstraser is in his third season as MSUM's head men's basketball coach.Â
