MSUM Heads to Drury Softball Classic

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead softball heads to Springfield, Mo., this week for the Drury Softball Classic. The Dragons will play five games in three days beginning on Friday.

MSUM begins the tournament against Parkisde on Friday at 11 a.m. before playing the host Panthers at 3 p.m. The Dragons will play Drury again on Saturday at 1 p.m. before finishing the day against Newman. On Sunday, MSUM will wrap play at the tournament against Parkisde at 9 a.m. 

Live video and stats for select games will be available at msumdragons.com. MSUM last competed at the Dome Invitational in Rosemont, Ill., where the Dragons won one of six contests. 

At the plate, MSUM is led be seniors Avery Steffen and Annika Norman, who each hold an over .400 batting average this year. Steffen hits for a team-best .414 average while Norman has hit for a .404 average. Norman leads the roster with 12 RBIs while Steffen and fellow senior Eliya Johnson each have eight RBIs. Steffen leads the Dragons on the basepaths as well, stealing 13 bases in 16 attempts. 

Steffen also leads the Dragons in the circle, pitching 39.1 innings for a 4.09 ERA and 41 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .256 average. Sophomore Teagan Clemmons has twirled 34.1 innings for the Dragons this season with 32 strikeouts and a .286 opponent batting average. Freshman Bella Hess has also seen substantial time for MSUM, slinging 18.2 innings with 11 strikeouts. 

Heading into the weekend, five Dragons hold a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with Steffen, Hess, Brynna Farman, Jessie Henry and Hailey Thurber holding umblemished marks in the field. Norman, Johnson, Lexie Wilson, Teagan Pranchke, Olivia Goderis and Natalie Gonzalez all hold a fielding percentage over .900 for the Dragons as well.
