MSUM Softball Falls to Open Drury Classic

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – MSU Moorhead dropped a game at the Drury Softball Classic on Friday.

MSUM fell to Parkside in a competitive contest to begin the tournament, 6-5. Game two against Drury was canceled.

Game One

Neither team would get much offense working in the first inning as Eliya Johnson would collect the first Dragon hit on a bunt single. Johnson would be stranded on second base, but the offense proved momentous for the Dragons. In the third inning, Teagan Pranchke would walk to leadoff the inning, eventually moving to third base with one out. Teagan Clemmons would score Pranchke from third on another bunt single.

Parkside would get to Dragon starter Bella Hess in the third inning, scoring three runs to take a 3-1 lead. It was not until the fifth inning where MSUM saw its offense come back to life, tying the game at three runs each. Pranchke and Avery Steffen would find base before Pranchke scored on a wild pitch. Steffen would tie the game thanks to an RBI single from Natalie Gonzalez

It was again Pranchke who sparked the Dragons offense in the final inning, leading off the frame with a single. Steffen would double in the next at-bat and would eventually score after a single from Gonzalez. Annika Norman would earn an RBI on a groundout, which gave the Dragons a two-run lead heading into home half. Unfortunately for the Dragons, Parkside would score three runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the game, 6-5.
