Dragons Wrap Non-Conference at MIAA-NSIC Crossover

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead softball is set to conclude non-conference action this week as part of the MIAA-NSIC Crossover. The Dragons will play six games across three days at the tournament. 

MSUM (7-14) opens the tournament on Friday in a doubleheader against Missouri Southern which is set for 12 p.m. in Joplin, Mo. Saturday will see the Dragons take on Pittsburg State in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. before wrapping play on Sunday against Nebraska Kearney at 9 a.m. Doubleheaders against the Gorillas and Lopers will be contested in Pittsburg, Kan.

Live video and stats will be available at msumdragons.com. Please note that the MIAA Network is a pay-per-view service. MSUM has not competed since the Drury Classic which saw the Dragons claims one of four contests. 

Senior Avery Steffen leads the Dragons at the plate, bolstering a team-best .423 average with 30 hits, nine RBIs and 21 runs scored. Steffen also leads the roster with 16 stolen bases in 19 attempts. Fellow senior Annika Norman has also been strong so far this season, touting a .354 average with 23 hits and a team-high 14 RBIs. Junior catcher Teagan Pranchke also hits above .300 with a .333 average with 14 hits. Senior Eliya Johnson and junior Lexie Wilson are tied for the team lead with two home runs each. 

In the circle, sophomore Teagan Clemmons has paced the Dragons, twirling 42.1 innings for a team-best 3.80 ERA to go along with 40 strikeouts. Steffen has also been strong for the Dragons in a pitching role, slinging 47.2 innings for a 4.11 ERA and a team-high 50 strikeouts. Steffen has held opposing batters to a .241 average so far this season. Freshman Bella Hess has also seen time as a spot starter for the Dragons, tallying 13 strikeouts in 24.1 innings pitched. 

Three Dragons bolster a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage so far this season in Hess, Brynna Farman and Jessie Henry. As a team, MSUM still bolsters an impressive .952 fielding percentage.
