BISMARCK, N.D. – MSU Moorhead track & field saw a strong opening to outdoor competition on Sunday. The Dragons competed at the Al Bortke Open, hosted by UMary.
Sprints/Hurdles/Relays
Adla Serrao earned a fifth-place finish in the women's 100m hurdles with a closing time of 15.74.
Brihonne Cargill earned a sixth-place finish in the women's 100m dash, clocking a 12.71 while
Desiree Loyd placed eighth with a time of 12.73. On the men's side,
Austin Weite (11.05),
Louis Sobiech (11.09) and
Caden Spence (11.15) would place fifth, sixth and seventh for the Dragons. All three sprints are new outdoor personal bests.
Liv Birkeland would claim a 10
th-place finish in the women's 400m hurdles, marking a finishing time of 1:10.96. Cargill would be MSUM's top finisher in the 200m, placing fifth with a time of 26.59. In the men's 200m, Sobiech finished fourth with a personal best time of 22.33.
Frosty Wisnewski (22.78) and Weite (22.83) would finish seventh and ninth for the Dragons in the same race. The time for Weite was also a new personal best.
In the 4x100m relay, the Dragon team of
Nevaeh Coffer,
Jazmin Barry, Loyd and
Shavantae Roberts finished runner-up with a time of 47.19. The men's team of
David Daniels, Weite, Spence and Sobiech also earned a runner-up finish with a time of 41.41.
Jumps/Vaults
Barry would shine in her first collegiate outdoor meet, winning women's long jump with a mark of 19-01.5 (5.83m). The leap is the second-best in MSUM history while teammates
Tylah Pratt (5.32m),
McKenna Schreiber (5.30m) and Coffer (4.97m) placed third, fourth and seventh respectively for MSUM. On the men's side,
David Daniels finished runner-up behind a mark of 22-09.25 (6.94m).
Rollie Hanna (6.42m) would place eighth in the same event for MSUM.
In men's high jump,
Jasiah Hambira would claim an event win for the Dragons, clearing 6-07.5 (2.02m).
Tate Rasmussen (1.94m) and
Mac Kunza (1.84m) finished fourth and seventh for the Dragons in the same event. On the women's side,
Hunter Petersen led MSUM with fourth-place marks and a clearance of 5-03 (1.60m). Loyd (1.50m) and Pratt (1.50m) finished in a tie for seventh as well.
Kade Larson would finish third in men's triple jump behind a leap of 41-10 (12.75m).
Leya Teicher would lead the Dragons in women's pole vault, clearing 10-11.75 (3.35m) to earn runner-up marks.
Katelyn Utecht placed fifth in the same event for MSUM behind a clearance of 10-0 (3.05m).
Nicholas Huss placed third in the same event on the men's side, clearing 13-03.5 (4.05m)
Throws
Women's hammer throw would see
Katelyn Zaiger (42.85m),
Kiley Kranz (41.40m) and
Codi Bunting (39.98m) all set personal bests in the event. The mark for Zaiger earned her a seventh-place finish overall. On the men's side in the same event
Ben Nyreen (41.07m) and
Landon Nicholas (36.32m) each set new personal bests as well.
Kranz would lead MSUM's efforts in women's shot put as well, finishing eighth overall behind a top toss of 38-05 (11.71m). Zaiger would finish eighth in discus as well, marking a 120-08 (36.78m). On the men's side,
Jack Stewart (35.77m) and Nyreen (32.37m) each set new outdoor collegiate bests as well.
