MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead soccer is set to host Highway 75 rival Minnesota Crookston on Friday, September 12 in a non-conference match. The 3 p.m. meeting will be the first of two Rivalry Rock games between the two programs this season.
Live video and stats will be available at msumdragons.com. Heading into the match, MSUM holds possession of the Rivalry Rock after a 2-2 tie with the Golden Eagles last season. Overall, Moorhead is 6-3-2 in Highway 75 Rivalry Rock games.
MSUM is coming off a strong 1-0-1 start to the season last week, earning a season-opening draw against Black Hills State. The Dragons logged more shots on goal than the Yellow Jackets, but neither team would find the net in the 0-0 stalemate. Moorhead would look sharp in a Sunday morning match with Nebraska-Kearney, scoring in the first half off the foot of
Sophie Thompson. From there, the Dragons would control the neutral site match, eventually winning 2-0 after a second-half goal from true freshman Ana Ceclilia Walker. The Dragons also won the shots on goal battle with the Lopers in the victory.
The Dragons were strong in net throughout the weekend as senior
Quinn Carter would collect a clean sheet with four saves against Black Hills State. Fellow senior
Rylee Truslow would save seven shots in another clean sheet effort on Sunday. In total, MSUM faced 37 shots and would not surrender a goal over the course of 180 minutes. MSUM's backline was controlled thanks to
Lilly Allen and senior
Lizzy Jaraczeski, who went the full 90 in both matches for the Dragons. The 1-0-1 effort in the two matches is the first unblemished opening weekend for MSUM since 2019.
Scott Forster is in his second season as MSUM's head soccer coach.
