MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead tennis is set to begin the fall portion of its 2025-26 schedule this weekend as part of the Augustana Invitational. Action from Tomar Park in Sioux Falls, S.D., is scheduled to begin Saturday morning with the tournament wrapping up on Sunday.
MSUM is coming off one of its most successful seasons in recent memory in 2024-25, going 12-9 overall in duals with a 5-4 mark in NSIC matches. The Dragons qualified for the NSIC Semifinals for the first time since the 2020-21 season. Moorhead saw All-NSIC singles seasons from
Luzmary Diaz Castillo and
Shaelyn Johnson while the pair were also named All-NSIC doubles. The team of Diaz Castillo and Johnson collected a single-season school record 16 victories. Additionally,
Tiannah Gu would tie the single-season school record for singles wins with 16.
In his first season as head coach,
Damien O'Donnell will look to keep the upward trajectory after serving as the program's top assistant for three seasons. O'Donnell brought on the aforementioned Johnson as an assistant coach this year as well. O'Donnell will have the luxury of three returning student-athletes from last year's team, led by Diaz Castillo in her senior campaign. As a junior, Diaz Castillo went 15-7 overall in singles play with a 5-2 mark in NSIC matches. Junior
Katryna Hansen collected nine singles wins a season ago and has been a stalwart in the Moorhead lineup since her freshman season. MSUM will also welcome back sophomore
Sophia Felderman, who proved to be one of the top freshmen in the NSIC a season ago. Felderman would win 12 singles matches a season ago, including four NSIC victories.
In 2025-26, Moorhead added a Division I transfer in
Camilla Bonini. The Rome, Italy, native spent the 2024-25 season as a member of Siena's roster, winning a pair of singles matches on the year. O'Donnell will also bring in four true freshman in
Alayna Johnson (North Mankato, Minn.),
Autumn Kron (Cold Spring, Minn.),
Lydia Sparby (Belle Plaine, Minn.) and
Sammie Wood (Cass Lake, Minn.).
