MSUM Back at Home for Cross-Division Meetings

| By:
MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead men's basketball returns to Nemzek Fieldhouse this weekend in a pair of NSIC cross-divisional bouts. The Dragons host Augustana on Friday at 5:30 p.m. before welcoming Wayne State on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Live video and stats will be available at msumdragons.com. Fans can watch the contests on the Dragon Digital Network with Steve d'Eustachio on play-by-play and Jared Bledsoe on commentary. Saturday's game can also be listened to on AM 1100/FM 92.3 with Jace Denman and Greg Burd on the call.

Matchup History...The Dragons have claimed five of the last six meetings with the Vikings, most recently a 85-51 win in the NSIC Tournament quarterfinals a season ago. In their last meeting inside Nemzek Fieldhouse, Moorhead would claim an 89-80 overtime victory. The series has always been competitive with the teams splitting the last 22 games overall. Against the Wildcats, MSUM will look to avenge last season's 73-68 overtime loss. Prior to that game, the Dragons had won 14 straight against the Wildcats dating back to the 2013-14 season. Before last year's contest, Wayne State had not defeated the Dragons since February 9, 2013.

Last Time Out...The Dragons earned a split in NSIC cross-divisional action last weekend. Moorhead was led by 19 points from Isa El-Amin in a 102-89 loss to Concordia-St. Paul on Friday. MSUM responded on Saturday, defeating Winona State 83-79 thanks to double-doubles from Sam Hastreiter and Timaris Brown.

Dueling Doubles...Seniors Timaris Brown and Sam Hastreiter helped guide the Dragons to victory over Winona State on Saturday. Brown turned in a Dragon career-high 19 points to go along with 10 rebounds. The Chicago, Ill., native shot 53.8 percent from the field, including a pair of made three-pointers. Hastreiter also turned in a double-double, netting 16 points with 10 rebounds. The Lincoln, Neb., native was his typical efficient self, connecting on 66.6 percent of his shot attempts.

Gooden Finds A Form...Redshirt junior Dominic Gooden turned in a pair of double figure scoring efforts for the Dragons last weekend. Gooden scored 17 points against Concordia-St. Paul on Friday before dropping in 12 more against Winona State. Across the two games, Gooden knocked down 12 free throws as he continues to lead Moorhead in both free throw attempts (85) and makes (71).

El-Amin Leads The Pack...True freshman Isa El-Amin led the Dragons with 19 points against Concordia-St. Paul on Friday. El-Amin added three assists, two rebounds and a steal in the effort. For the game, the Minnetonka, Minn., native shot 40 percent from the floor with three made three-pointers. El-Amin leads the Dragons in steals (26) and assists (47) so far this season.

Good As Gerads...Sophomore Tysen Gerads picked up the scoring load against the Golden Bears on Friday. Gerads scored 15 points, two off his career high set earlier this season. The Avon, Minn., native made his first five shot attempts of the game, eventually finishing with a 66.6 percent clip from the floor. Gerads also pulled down six rebounds in the game.

Top Offense...Moorhead still holds the NSIC's top scoring offense, averaging 85.3 points per game. Sioux Falls is right behind MSUM in that category, averaging 83.9 points per contest. MSUM's per game mark also sits in the top 40 nationally.

Jason Kemp is in his first season as MSUM's head men's basketball coach.
