MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead swimming & diving endured a competitive Senior Day dual with the University of Mary on Friday afternoon. The Dragons narrowly fell to the Marauders, 147-146.
1-meter diving would open the dual as senior
Isabelle Johnson would earn an event win for the Dragons. Johnson scored a 237.50 in six dives while
Zoe Bjerke would place runner-up with a score of 235.40. In 3-meter diving, Bjerke would secure a spot at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships. Bjerke collected a six-dive score of 269.40 to secure the NCAA provisional mark with the score being the second-best in program history. The Valley City, N.D., native earned her 1-meter provisional earlier this season. Bjerke would win the event with Johnson placing runner-up with a score of 258.95.
In relay action, the 200-yard medley squad of
Kelsey Jackson,
Rose Urick,
Ruth Pavelski and
Maggie Moore would finish runner-up with a time of 1:50.87. Moorhead would also finish runner-up in the 400-yard freestyle relay to conclude the meet as the team of Moore, Pavelski,
Joanna Phillips and
Sophia Verke would clock a 3:39.58.
Anika Grunenwald would lead MSUM's efforts in the 1000-yard freestlye, placing third with a time of 11:43.31. Grunenwald was also MSUM's top finisher in the 500-yard freestyle, marking a 5:40.67 to place fourth.
Claire Schlaefer would earn fifth-place marks in the same event for Moorhead, swimming a 5:55.75.
Moore would turn in a strong individual day for the Dragons, winning the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.96. Pavelski would place third for Moorhead, swimming a 2:01.3.4. Moore would also win the 100-yard freestyle, swimming a 54.39 while Verke placed third with a time of 54.63. Verke would win the 50-yard freestyle behind a time of 25.33 while
Tresa Baumgard placed fourth with a time of 25.98.
Jackson would collect an event win for the Dragons in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking a 59.27 with
Lacie Stark (1:05.90) and
Adrianna Sullivan (1:08.02) earning team points as well. The junior would also win the 200-yard backstroke, touching the wall at 2:10.41
Fernanda Leon would continue her winning ways, claiming first-place marks in the 200-yard fly, swimming a 2:12.07.
Cami Mayo would place third in the same event with a time of 2:27.11. Leon would earn runner-up marks in the 200-yard IM as well, swimming a 2:14.49. Pavelski would win the 100-yard fly, clocking a 59.36 while Leon placed runner-up with a mark of 1:00.40.
Rose Urick would grab runner-up marks in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking a 1:09.69 for the placement. The sophomore would also finish runner-up in the 200-yard breaststroke, marking a 2:32.49.
