MARSHALL, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead women's basketball saw a sturdy defensive showing against a potent Southwest Minnesota State team on Friday. However, the Mustangs would claim the bout from the Dragons, 61-53.
How It Happened
- A low-scoring first quarter saw the Mustangs hold a six-point lead (12-6) late in the frame.
- While SMSU would lead by as many as seven points, the Mustang lead would remain at six points after 10 minutes (17-11).
- The second quarter would see the Mustangs lead by as many as eight points before the Dragons made a late rally.
- Moorhead would jump out on a 9-0 run, sparked by an and-one from Terryn Johnson.
- A Karlee Fisher three would even the score at 28 points with the Dragons eventually holding a one-point lead.
- Southwest Minnesota State would regain the scoreboard before the break, leading 31-29.
- The Dragons would limit the Mustangs to four of 16 shooting from three-point range in the first half.
- Johnson and Abby Berge would score early in the third period to put the Dragons back in front.
