MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead men's basketball fell in a physical matchup with St. Cloud State on Friday evening inside Nemzek Fieldhouse. The Huskies took advantage of a cold shooting night from the Dragons en route to a 77-64 victory.
How It Happened
- Moorhead opened the game making their first two field goal attempts as Isa El-Amin and Sam Hastreiter gave the Dragons a 5-2 lead early on.
- The lead would by MSUM's only of the game as St. Cloud State would build a six-point lead midway through the first half.
- The Husky offense would pick up from there, eventually leading 30-19 with six minutes to play in the half.
- St. Cloud State would continue to hold a double figure led the rest of the first half, leading 43-29 at the break.
- Moorhead was led by 12 points from El-Amin, but the difference proved to the long range shot. The Huskies made 50 percent of their attempts compared ot MSUM's 16.7 percent mark.
- As the second half began, the Dragons would whittle the the deficit down thanks to defense, Dominic Gooden and Timaris Brown.
- The transfer tandem would get the Dragons back within five points (45-40) after a triple from Gooden.
- Gooden would continue to connect from deep, netting two more threes to help tie the game at 49 points midway through the half.
- St. Cloud State would answer with eight straight points to jump back in front.
- Down the stretch, Moorhead would come as close as seven points before the Huskies separated themselves at the free throw line.
- MSUM shot just 39.7 percent from the floor for the game in the 77-64 loss.
- In total, 50 fouls were assessed in the game and a combined 64 free throws were attempted.
- Timaris Brown scored his 1,000th collegiate point in the loss.
