MANSFIELD, Texas – Minnesota State Moorhead softball opened the 2026 regular season on Friday at the Lone Star D2 College Classic. The Dragons opened the day with a 5-0 loss to Oklahoma Baptist before falling to Missouri-St. Louis in five innings.
Bison 5, Dragons 0
The teams would remain scoreless through two innings with Dragon starter
Brynna Farman tallying a strikeout and just one Bison hit. Both teams would pitch a scoreless third before Moorhead earned its first hit of the 2026 season off the bat of
Lexie Wilson. The senior's single provided the Dragons a baserunner, but MSUM would not bring anything across. Oklahoma Baptist would claim a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a solo home run.
As the Dragons were held scoreless again in the top half of the fifth, the Bison would open the game up in the home half. Oklahoma Baptist would plate three runs on two hits and an error to claim a four-run lead. Moorhead would attempt a comeback in the sixth inning, earning hits from
Sami Macchiaroli, Wilson and
Kayla Roidt. However, MSUM would strand a pair on base without a run. Oklahoma Baptist would plate another run in the bottom half to lead 5-0.
The Dragons would go quietly in the top of the seventh as the Bison would claim the game 5-0. Moorhead had five hits in the contest, compared to OBU's four, led by a pair of hits from Wilson. Macchiaroli and
Riley McKeever would earn their first collegiate hits in the loss.
Tritons 13, Dragons 1
The Tritons were quick to offense in the second game, scoring three runs in the first thanks to a home run. Missouri-St. Louis was not done there as the game advanced to the second frame. The Tritons scored three more runs on six hits to take a commanding six-run lead. In the home half, Moorhead would see hits from Wilson and
Lisa Garcia, but both would be stranded in scoring position to end the inning.
MSUM would only tally one hit off the bat of Macchiaroli in the third inning as the Tritons retained a six-run lead. After a scoreless fourth, Missouri-St. Louis would threaten again in the top half of the fifth inning. The Tritons would score seven runs on five hits to push their lead to 13 runs. MSUM also surrendered three walks in the frame, including a base on balls that provided a run.
Lacey Camden would double to leadoff the bottom half for the Dragons to keep hope alive. In the ensuing at-bat, freshman
Melanie Spivey would single to right field, driving home Camden for Moorhead's first run of the season. The Tritons would settle down from there, holding the Dragons scoreless throughout the remainder of the inning. Missouri-St. Louis would claim a 13-1 run rule victory in five frames.
