MSUM Falls in Single Game to Hawks

MANSFIELD, Texas -- Minnesota State Moorhead softball dropped its lone contest on day two of the Lone Star D2 College Classic. The Dragons fell to Rockhurst, 12-3.

Rockhurst was quick to offense in the top of the first inning, scoring four runs on two hits and a pair of Dragon errors in the field. Sami Macchiaroli would earn a base on balls to leadoff the home half for Moorhead, but the freshman would get thrown out at third base following a single from Courtney Locke. The Hawks would plate another run in the top of the second frame to build a five-run advantage. Kayla Roidt would get on base to begin the second inning, eventually moving to third after a pair of walks. With one out and the bases loaded, senior Teagan Pranchke would single to drive home a run for MSUM. In the ensuing at-bat, Macchiaroli would drive in another run on a sacrifice fly. Heading into the third inning, Rockhurst led 5-2.

Following a scoreless third inning, the Hawks would look for more in the top of the fourth. Rockhurst would score two more runs on three hits to re-extend their lead to five runs. Moorhead would respond with three hits in the home half off the bats of Andrea Garcia, Alivia Henderson and Pranchke, but would be unable to push anything across. The Hawks would use that to their advantage, scoring two more runs in the fifth inning to lead 9-2. Singles from Riley McKeever and Lexie Wilson would put a pair of runners in scoring position in the bottom half. Roidt would drive home McKeever on a sacrifice fly with the Dragons trailing 9-3 after five frames.

Neither team would plate a run in the sixth inning as Rockhurst looked to create more separation in the final inning. The Hawks scored three more runs on two hits and two errors to push their lead to nine runs. Moorhead would be unable to respond as the Hawks claimed the 12-3 victory, taking advantage of six Dragon errors in the contest.
