MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead women's basketball saw flashes, but ultimately fell to second-ranked Minnesota State in NSIC action on Saturday afternoon. The Mavericks defeated the Dragons, 97-64.
How It Happened
- The Maverick press proved pesky for the Dragons to open the contest as MSU began the game on a 10-0 run.
- Moorhead would come within nine points late in the frame, but the Mavericks would hold a double figure lead after 10 minutes, 27-14.
- Adie Wagner would enliven the Dragons to begin the second period, drilling a three that sparked a 9-0 Dragon run.
- Terryn Johnson and Ashton Safranski would score in the spurt, pulling MSUM to within four points, 27-23.
- Another three-pointer from Wagner brought the Dragons to within three points, 29-26.
- Minnesota State would surge throughout the rest of the period, rebuilding their lead into double figures.
- The Mavericks would lead by as many as 20 points, but held a 48-31 lead at the break.
