WINONA, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead tennis dropped its first conference dual of the spring season on Saturday evening. The Dragons fell to Winona State, 5-2.
The Warriors would earn the doubles point after winning at the number two and three positions. Moorhead's number one duo of
Luzmary Diaz Castillo and
Sophia Felderman would claim their second win of the season in a 6-4 conquest of Winona State's Lainy Ristau and Ally Burger.
Diaz Castillo would earn another singles win in the number one position as well, but not without a challenge. The senior would need three sets to top Ristau after dropping the first set 6-3. Diaz Castillo would rally back to win the second set 6-4 before securing the match in a 6-2 win in set three. Moorhead would gather another team point at the number six position in the form of freshman
Lydia Sparby. The Belle Plaine, Minn., native claimed a tiebreaker in set one to earn a 7-6 victory. Sparby would earn her first NSIC victory after a 6-4 win in set two.
Both Felderman and
Camilla Bonini would take their singles bouts to three sets after each won the first set. However, the Warriors would rally back in both matches to swipe the team points from the Dragons.
