MSUM Bested by Beavers

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Minnesota State Moorhead suffered a tough loss at home to visiting Minot State on Saturday. The Beavers defeated the Dragons, 74-67.

How It Happened
  • Moorhead would be quick to offense on Senior Day as Eddie Beeninga knocked down a pair of triples to provide a 6-2 lead.
  • The squads would only trade baskets from there with Minot State holding a narrow 21-17 lead midway through the half.
  • Not even three minutes later, Minot State would move their lead to eight points.
  • Moorhead would pull back to within four points after three freebies from Timaris Brown
  • Sam Hondl would connect from long range a possession later and the Dragons were within one point, 29-28.
  • Before halftime, the Beavers would build their lead back to four points, 35-31.
  • Moorhead would start fast in the second half as Sam Hastrieter and Beeninga scored to give the Dragons a lead once more.
  • The lead would change hands on seemingly every possession from there with Minot State holding a six-point cushion with nine minutes to play.
  • MSUM would trail by as many as eight points shortly after, but another triple from Beeninga would have Moorhead within four points.
  • From there, the Dragons would jump out on an 8-0 run to claim a 62-60 lead with under five minutes to play.
  • Minot State would show solid poise despite the run, regaining a seven-point lead with 60 seconds remaining.
  • While MSUM would get back within four points thanks to late scoring from Isa El-Amin, the Beavers would clinch the game at the foul line.
  • Minot State won 74-67 with El-Amin leading the Dragons with 14 points.
  • Beeninga scored 11 for Moorhead as well.
