MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead tennis continues NSIC competition this weekend in a pair of neutral site duals. The Dragons take on UMary on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. before battling Jamestown on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both duals will be played at the Sta-Fit Tennis Center in Sartell, Minn.
The Dragons began conference play last weekend, falling to Winona State (5-2) and Minnesota State (6-1).
Against the Warriors, Moorhead's number one duo of
Luzmary Diaz Castillo and
Sophia Felderman would claim their second win of the season in a 6-4 conquest of Lainy Ristau and Ally Burger.
Diaz Castillo would earn another singles win in the number one position as well, but not without a challenge. The senior would need three sets to top Ristau after dropping the first set 6-3. Diaz Castillo would rally back to win the second set 6-4 before securing the match in a 6-2 win in set three. Moorhead would gather another team point at the number six position in the form of freshman
Lydia Sparby. The Belle Plaine, Minn., native claimed a tiebreaker in set one to earn a 7-6 victory. Sparby would earn her first NSIC victory after a 6-4 win in set two.
Both Felderman and
Camilla Bonini would take their singles bouts to three sets after each won the first set. However, the Warriors would rally back in both matches to swipe the team points from the Dragons.
In their matchup with the Mavericks, Diaz Castillo and Felderman would move to 3-0 on the season. MSUM's pairing claimed a 6-4 victory over McKenna Demarce and Julia Gurholt.
Felderman would lead the Dragons in singles competition, winning her number two bout with DeMarce. The sophomore earned a 7-5 win in set one before sealing the match with a 6-1 victory in set two. Diaz Castillo would come close to securing her eighth win of the season but fell in three competitive sets to Gurholt. The senior dropped the first set before winning the second frame 6-2. In a heated third set, Diaz Castillo narrowly fell, 10-7.
