ORLANDO, Fla. – Minnesota State Moorhead tennis suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of St. Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday morning. The Dragons fell to the Spartans, 4-3.
The Dragons would win the double point behind a resounding win at the number one position from
Luzmary Diaz Castillo and
Sophia Felderman. Moorhead's duo battled Sun Zhuoxuan and Kateryna Kryuchkova, who were ranked 32
nd in the nation in the latest ITA rankings (and eighth in their region). The Dragon duo defeated Zhuoxuan and Kryuchkova 7-6 behind a narrow 8-6 tiebreaker.
Lydia Sparby and
Autumn Kron collected a walkover victory to secure the team point for MSUM.
Singles action would see the Spartans win in the first, second, third and fourth positions to secure the dual. However,
Camilla Bonini would continue her strong stretch of play, defeating Monica Blucher Martinez in convincing fashion, 6-0, 6-0. Bonini has now won three of her last four singles matches. Freshman
Alayna Johnson would follow suit in the number six position, earning her first collegiate singles victory over Channelle Russell (6-0, 6-0).
