Dragons Set to Host Cougars, Vikings in Fargo

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead tennis is preparing for its lone home weekend of the spring season. The Dragons play host to Sioux Falls on Friday and 7:30 p.m. before taking on Augustana on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Courts Plus Community Fitness. 

Live video will be available at msumdragons.com. Moorhead is coming off a week of close results in NSIC play, falling to both Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth in identical 4-3 fashion. 

Matchup History...Sioux Falls and Augustana would get the better of the Dragons a season ago in Fargo. The Cougars claimed a narrow 4-3 victory while the Vikings topped the Dragons, 7-0. Sioux Falls has won the last four duals over the Dragons with Moorhead's last win coming in the NSIC Tournament on April 21, 2023 (4-0). Since 2012-13, MSUM us 7-8 against the Cougars. 

Lean On Luz...Senior Luzmary Diaz Castillo earned another pair of singles victories for the Dragons last weekend. Diaz Castillo defeated Bemidji State's Mia Leshem in three sets (7-5, 2-6, 6-2) to begin her weekend. The senior closed out the stretch with a convincing 6-0, 6-0 victory over Minnesota Duluth's Carly Chaney. Diaz Castillo is currently 11-7 in singles action this season with a 4-2 mark in NSIC matches. 

Kat's Kradle...Junior Katryna Hansen found her rhythm at number two singles last weekend for Moorhead. Hansen earned a victory over Bemidji State's Paula Garcia Acebal in a three set battle (6-1, 4-6, 7-5). To conclude the weekend, Hansen defeated Minnesota Duluth's Mia Miller in straight sets (6-4, 6-3). This season, Hansen has six singles wins.

Felderman Gets Her 10th...After a narrow three-set loss against Bemidji State, sophomore Sophia Felderman responded against Minnesota Duluth. Felderman scored a 6-4, 6-4 straight sets win over Sydney Friedrich. The victory for Felderman is her 10th singles victory of the season. 

Bonini On The Rise...Sophomore Camilla Bonini continued to look sharp in a pair of NSIC duals last weekend. On Saturday against Bemidji State, Bonini tallied a three-set victory at the number five position over Lauren Rutten (6-4, 3-6, 10-4). It was Bonini's fourth singles win in five matches with the sophomore securing her eighth win of the season.
