MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Redshirt junior distance specialist
Jared Gregoire and senior golfer
Halle Balluff have been named the Minnesota State Moorhead Athletes of the Month presented by Buffalo Wild Wings for the month of March 2026.
Gregoire would put MSUM in the national spotlight in the month of March, placing fifth in the mile at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 13 and 14. Gregoire was placed in the first of two preliminary heats at the national meet, finishing sixth in his pod behind a time of 4:06.97. The finals would take each heat's top three placers before taking the remaining three competitors based on time. While Gregoire would have to hold his breath during the second heat, his mark stood as the eighth-best amongst all competitors. That placement would advance Gregoire to Saturday's finals. The Buffalo, Minn., native turned another strong mile run on Saturday, placing fifth overall with a time of 4:12.83. As is customary with Gregoire's races, the redshirt junior used all his reserves in the final stretch of the race. Gregoire closed the last 400 meters with an impressive 54.07 split, including 27.25 clip in the final 200 meters. The finish earned Gregoire First Team All-America honors and the second indoor All-America nod of his career. He is the first indoor mile All-American for MSUM since Josh Young in 2017.
Balluff was exceptional in MSUM's lone tournament in the month of March, shooting a 36-hole 154 at the SMSU Challenge on March 12 and 13. Baluff guided the Dragons through 18 holes on day one, carding a first-round 80 overall. Balluff was stellar on the back nine at Wigwam Blue Course, scoring three consecutive birdies on the 10
th, 11
th and 12
th holes. This included one-under marks on the par-five 10
th hole which spanned 492 yards and a chip-in on the par-four 12
th hole. The Moorhead native also logged four pars in her round and finished the back nine even par (34). Balluff would again pace Moorhead on day two, shooting an improved 74, which matches the 18-hole school record (held by teammate
Aspen Beyer). Balluff was consistent all day, shooting four over on the front nine, which included four pars and a birdie. The Moorhead native was even better in the back nine, shooting even par (34) with just one bogey. Balluff combated her bogey with a birdie on the par-four 12
th hole. The senior finished seventh on the individual leaderboard, a personal best performance.
