MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead softball rallied for a game two victory in a Saturday afternoon twinbill with Concordia-St. Paul. The Golden Bears claimed game one in six innings before the Dragons took game two in walkoff fashion, 8-7.
Game One
The Dragons would get the game's first hit on a one out double from
Sami Macchiaroli in the first inning. While the freshman would move to third base, Moorhead would not push anything across in the frame. MSUM would load the bases in the home half of the second inning after hits from
Lexie Wilson and
Melanie Spivey. However, the Golden Bears would strand three on base to keep the game scoreless. Moorhead starter
Brynna Farman would open the afternoon well, not surrendering a hit through two innings of work.
Concordia-St. Paul would break the scoreless tie in the top of the third inning, scoring two runs on two hits. The Golden Bears would plate an additional two runs on three hits to push their advantage to four runs. Across the fourth and fifth innings, MSUM would be held without a run, logging a pair of hits in the stretch. Concordia-St. Paul would take advantage, scoring five runs on five hits in the top of the sixth to lead 9-0. Moorhead would be unable to plate a run in the home half with the Golden Bears earning the victory by the same score.
Game Two
A back and forth affair would ensue in the second game as the Golden Bears would score a run on two hits to claim a quick lead. Moorhead would provide a response in the home half as
Teagan Pranchke led off the frame with a single. Pranchke would steal second base, eventually scoring on an RBI single from
Riley McKeever a few at-bats later. McKeever would provide MSUM its second run of the game, scoring on a single from
Kayla Roidt. After two innings, MSUM led 4-1 before CSP added a pair of runs in the third frame to come back within a run.
MSUM continued to showcase its offense in the bottom of the fourth inning, plating two more runs on three hits.
Loie Moore logged her second hit of the game, later scoring on a sacrifice fly from McKeever. Pranchke would plate another Dragon run, scoring thanks to a double from
Courtney Locke. Credit to the Golden Bears, who would tie the game at six runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Moorhead would get another run back in the bottom half of the same inning after Roidt led off with a single. The Dragons would put two more runners on before scoring on a Golden Bear error. Concordia-St. Paul would respond again in the sixth inning, evening the score at seven runs after a pair of hits. That score would hold firm until the final half inning.
The Dragons would use the 'last ups' to their advantage with
Morgan Kingsbury finding base on a one-out walk. Moore would single in the next at-bat, logging her fourth hit in as many at-bats. Pranchke would load the bases with an infield single in the ensuing at-bat. With one out, Macchiaroli would step to the plate, hitting a two-strike pitch to the shortstop. The throw would go awry, allowing Kingsbury to score from third and providing the Dragons an 8-7 victory. Moore's four hits led the way while the senior Pranchke tallied three hits in the win.
