Moorhead Drops Final Home Contests to Huskies

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead softball wrapped up the home portion of the 2026 schedule on Sunday against visiting St. Cloud State. The high-powered Huskies took both games at Nemzek Softball Field.

Game One

St. Cloud State would quickly showcase their power in the top half of the first inning, claiming a one-run lead following a solo home run. The Huskies would continue to hold a one-run advantage into the third inning before plating one run to lead 2-0. Moorhead would get its first hit in the home half of the same inning off the bat of Morgan Kingsbury. While Kingsbury moved into scoring position, MSUM would not score a run in the frame.

The visitors would keep their two-run lead in tact until the top of the fifth inning when the Huskies scored an additional five runs on six hits. After five innings of play, St. Cloud State led 7-0. The Huskies would retain that lead into the final half inning. Kayla Roidt would earn a base hit in the bottom of the seventh to help the Dragons eventually get runners on the corners for freshman Loie Moore. The frosh knocked in Roidt from third base, providing the Dragons their first run. However, St. Cloud State would still claim the contest, 7-1.

Game Two

The Huskies would score two runs on three hits in the second inning to claim a lead as the second game commenced. A hit from Lexie Wilson would give the Dragons a baserunner in the bottom half, but MSUM would not push anything across. St. Cloud State would break the game open in the top of the fourth inning, scoring six runs on five hits to lead 8-0. Sami Macchiaroli would lead off the home half with a double, but would not advance beyond that base in the frame.

In the top of the fifth inning, St. Cloud State would continue to score, notching another six runs on five hits to stretch their lead to 14 runs. Of those five hits, three were home runs for the Huskies. Moorhead would not be able to whittle that deficit down in the final half frame as St. Cloud State won 14-0.
