MSUM Softball On The Road to Battle Beavers, Marauders

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Minnesota State Moorhead softball is set for a busy week of NSIC action. The Dragons travel for doubleheaders versus Minot State and UMary on Saturday and Sunday.

Live video and stats will be available at msumdragons.com. All doubleheaders are slated for a 1 p.m. start time. The Dragons are coming off a 1-3 week in NSIC play, earning an 8-0 run rule victory over Northern State on Saturday. 

Matchup History… The Dragons have the most recent victory over Minot State, defeating the Beavers in the NSIC Tournament last season, 4-1. Minot State has won three of the last five meetings with the Dragons. Entering Sunday's meeting with the Marauders, Moorhead will bolster a seven-game winning streak. The Marauders last defeated the Dragons on April 21, 2021. 

Wilson's Trio…Senior infielder Lexie Wilson had a pair of three-hit performances across four games last weekend. Wilson was a perfect three-for-three in game one versus Jamestown on Friday. In game one against Northern State on Saturday, Wilson had three hits in four at-bats. For the weekend, Wilson hit for a .545 average.

Locke-d In…Junior Courtney Locke had a pair of multi-hit showings for the Dragons last week. In total, Locke had five hits on the weekend with four RBIs. In two games against Northern State on Saturday, Locke had four hits in six at-bats, led by a bases-clearing double in game one. Saturday's showings brought Locke to eight multi-hit games this season. 

At The Plate…Freshman Riley McKeever leads the Dragons at the dish this season, slicing a .341 average. McKeever has 28 hits on the year while Wilson has 29 hits behind a .330 average. Locke and Kayla Roidt have each tallied 20 or more hits as well this season. Freshman Sami Macchiaroli leads the Dragon roster with 30 hits and 16 RBIs. 

In The Circle…Sophomore Bella Hess earned her first pitching decision of the season in MSUM's 8-0 win over Northern State. Hess leads the Dragons with a team-low ERA of 4.26 in 46 innings of work. The Folsom, Calif., native has limited batters to a .280 average so far this season. Senior Brynna Farman has pitched a team-high 59.2 innings with a 4.81 ERA. 

On The Field…Currently, seven Dragons hold a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage led by freshman Andrea Garcia with 29 total chances. Wilson leads the Dragons in total chances with 149, featuring a .987 percentage. As a collective, Moorhead holds a .956 fielding clip.
