MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Dragons took on University of Upper Iowa in an NSIC showcase. The game took place on the night of Digging for the Cure. The Dragons were forced to dig in down 2-0 but rallied to beat the Peacocks (17-25, 24-26, 25-18, 26-24, 16-14).
The Dragons improve to 18-8 overall, exceeding the team's win total from last year. MSUM currently sits behind Southwest Minnesota State, a half game out of fifth place with 8-5 record in the NSIC. Upper Iowa drops to 4-10 in the NSIC and 13-15 overall.
The home team was lead once again by Junior
Laura Tvrdik who completed 17 of her attacks. Defensively the Dragons looked to their defensive specialist Freshman
Katy Ness, who had a team leading 27 digs.
The Dragons were tough on net-defense, posting 15 blocks as a team. Junior
Kristen Kleven was the leader, getting involved on nine of those blocks.
MSUM running a 6-2 offense, were set up well with setters
Anna Olson and
Leigh Splittstoesser. Splittstoesser led the team with 32 assists and also had nine digs in the match. Olson recorded 23 assists in the match and also posted a kill.
The Dragons will take their four game win streak on the road when they face off against Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D. then travel to current NSIC last place team University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D.
