Dragons Rout Beavers, Post 22 Block Assists

BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons volleyball team put up a season high 22 block assists as they took a three game match from the Bemidji State Beavers on Friday night moving the Dragons' conference record to 2-0.

The Dragons handed the Beavers the loss in the home team's first conference game. MSUM's record moves to 12-3 and 2-0 in the NSIC, while BSU's record now sits at 3-8 overall.

Ashley Pyfferoen led the Dragons defense with six block assist, it was a season individual high for the team, but was closely followed by Mary Sussenguth and Laura Tvrdik who each had five. Kristen Kleven and Heidi Lensing each contributed to the team's season high with four and two, respectively.

Tvrdik led hte team in kills going 10-for-15 on the attack, hitting .667. Lensing followed with nine kills and Kleven had seven in the match.

Defensively the team was solid on blocks but they also had 47 digs, led by freshman Allie Knutsen who also had a team individual season high five service aces. Leigh Splittstoesser had eight digs on the night and also had 31 assists in the match.

MSUM will travel to Duluth, Minn. on Saturday as they will face their first true test of tough NSIC competitors in No. 10 ranked Minnesota, Duluth. The match will begin at 4 p.m. Live stats are available for the match by CLICKING HERE.
